Spring Bears in the Great Bear Rainforest

June 12-15, 2027

This is a journey like no one else. You are looking to

Lodge Based Journey

Over our 5-day itinerary, we spend a day exploring around Northern Vancouver Island, before we fly into a beautiful, secluded bear viewing lodge. This allows us to fully immerse in the rhythm of the wild coast, waking up each morning surrounded by the stunning inlet, ancient forest, and tidal estuary that the lodge is located in. Our itinerary allows us to maximize bear viewing time and take a deep dive into bear biology and photography.

Intimate Wildlife Encounters

This estuary is home to a high number of coastal grizzly bears, many of which are regularly seen and allow for intimate encounters. . Here, we’ll quietly observe bears as they roam the estuary and interact naturally in their environment. Our small group approach and low-impact presence means more meaningful encounters. In addition to grizzlies, we may spot many bird species, deer, black bears, whales, and maybe even an elusive coastal wolf.

Custom Workshops

Our custom workshops are designed specifically around your skill level and passions. Whether it’s understanding your camera settings, mastering composition, or perfecting post-processing, you’ll elevate your photography in a personalized, hands-on environment crafted to help you grow. We focus on your creative goals—whether you’re hoping to tell a compelling story, capture wildlife behaviour, or simply return home with images you're proud of.

  • Total Cost is $9695CAD (+tax) per person. Due to permit limitations, we allow a maximum of 9 Guests with 2 photography guides.

A non-refundable deposit of $2500CAD (+tax) is due upon booking.

The remaining balance ($7,195 CAD + tax) is due 90 days before your departure date.

This expedition brings you to one of the most remote places on the planet, which leads to inherent costs. See What’s Included below.

Given the nature of our seasonal business and the relatively small window of operation, cancellations within 90 days of departure are non refundable unless the dates in question are able to be filled. We will make every attempt to try and fill your spot in order  to issue a full refund (minus a 10% transaction fee), but if unable we reserve the right to keep payment. Travel insurance is required.

  • The first and last night of the trip are spent at K’walilas Hotel in Port Hardy.

3 nights of the trip will be spent at a luxurious, fly-in only wilderness lodge on the mainland coast of BC. Rooms will either be 2 queen size or one king size bed with a beautiful view and ensuite bathroom.

  • During our stay in Port Hardy we will enjoy the best of the local food scene in the indigenous owned and operated Hotel. At the lodge we will be treated to wilderness-gourmet meals including complimentary wine and beer.

  • Accommodations: all accommodations including hotel stays.

Food: From the first welcome dinner until our very last night, all food is covered during our expedition.

Activities: Full days of wildlife viewing, bird viewing, and transportation.

Photography: Hands-on photography workshops and field sessions, led by guides with deep naturalist knowledge and years of on-the-ground experience in the region.

Permits: Applicable permits, park user fees, and First Nations protocol fees.

  • Transportation to/from Quebec City, travel or cancellation insurance (required, see below for more information), accommodation and meals prior to welcome dinner on day one, alcohol at restaurants, or if you would like to extend your stay in the area. Guide and crew gratuities.

  • Port Hard is easily accessible by plane, and car.

Plane: Port Hardy airport, serviced by Pacific Coastal Airline.

Ferry: there is ferry service a few times/week from Prince Rupert in Northern BC. Please talk to us if you would like to arrive via ferry.

Car: Driving from Nanaimo or Victoria on Vancouver Island. If you are coming from the mainland, this requires a ferry first. Please make sure to make your reservation in time.

  • Prior to departure, passengers must have in place, comprehensive insurance coverage including medical and emergency evacuation, trip cancellation and interruption, and baggage insurance - this is at your expense; we will require proof of insurance. Any losses experienced because of incorrect travel planning or not securing adequate insurance will also be the full responsibility of the passenger.

  • This is a soft-adventure expedition, designed to be accessible and unhurried, with minimal hiking and little travel over strenuous terrain.

British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest is famously dynamic, and even in the spring the weather can shift quickly. Cool temperatures, coastal winds, and rain mean that proper layers and waterproof gear are essential for comfort and safety throughout the trip. Warm layers, heavy-duty raingear and rubber boots will be provided during the stay at the lodge.

Participants should be comfortable traveling on a small float plane, boats (only in protected waters), and on a small van.

To make the most of peak light and wildlife activity, select outings will take place in the early morning and late evening, when conditions are best for photography.
